@KY Cha the pointiness in Japanese chopsticks is more for ease of picking out bones. Chinese chopsticks are fatter for better grip and dont have a point so it''s easier to mix a sauce or something while also making it a poor weapon. Korean chopsticks are metal cuz ease of cleaning and use in hot pot and kbbq.

@Kylie Goodman I use hybrid korean chinese metal chopsticks and got no issue. I even pick out huge tonkatsu planks out of oil with no problem. Just get more used to it.

Very different with the type of chopsticks. I know that the point of Japanese chopsticks use for eating fish. It’s easy fall down the meat along with the fishbone.

Chinese are poor and sit around large tables making long chipstics a better option for family meals. Korean royalty had chopstics made of silver because they are royalty and believed that silver negates the effect of poison, to be honedt it is anti bacterial. That''s why metal chopstics are used, because everyone want''s to feel like royalty. In Japan people eat a lot of fish, that''s why they use pointy and short chopstics to be able to have better controll and take out fish bones etc more efficientlly.

@KY Cha no that''s just wrong, you almost got the reason for the japanese right though, you can actually look up the purpose of the shape on google, it''s a research project that i did a few years ago but i''m sure you''d still able to find it somewhere。

We even have different ways to hold them! China, Korea, and Japanese hold their chopsticks in different ways. (By the proper form) It''s quite interesting.
Also, as a Korean who tried Vietnam''s chopsticks, I found it long. (Actually surprised me when I saw it at first) At least compared to the ones I''ve seen so far in my life。

KY Cha As long as I know you got the Korean one wrong. There are very few noodle dishes in Korea. Actually, I can’t think of another one rather than one dish(잡채) right now! I think Korean chopsticks are flat because metal is too heavy for it to be made in a round shape. The flat metal chopsticks are still heavy compared to the wooden ones though

@Guilherme Mauricio, just go through the comment section and see that Nepalis and Indians (who are mostly hindu/non muslim) also use their right hand to eat, so this culture is much older than islamic influence.

@Guilherme Mauricio you are absolutely wrong! There are many areas in south asia where mughals didn''t rule like north east, north west regions. And I''m from north. Our ancestors used hands it''s like a tradition. Not only north, south Indians use hands too, with banana leaf for rice. And its not limited to specefic religion.

It''s about habit, and type of food. And for me personally, I would never get tired of eating rice, it''s like if westerners could get tired of eating bread!

Most of us in India also eat with our hands but we clean CLEAN THEM before eating, we always wash our hands. It''s your hands you can decide how clean you want it to be. Also when using hands not only your mouth but your hand also knows what you are eating (texture, content, etc)
